Overview of the GCIMS Project and a Dive into the GCAM Model

Abstract: The long-term vision of the GCIMS project is to improve the understanding of the complex interactions among energy, water, land, population, economics, and other important human and natural systems. This talk will introduce the GCIMS project and discuss our current focus areas including energy and critical materials, AI-applications, and data centers. For this modeling audience, much of the talk will be on a deeper dive of the GCAM model featuring the philosophy, history, methodology, and applications. We will discuss the GCAM regional and sectoral coverage, the non-linear representation of demand and supply, and the system of supply, demand, and trade equations that is solved to represent market equilibrium and the efficient allocation of resources.
