The Regionally Refined Mesh and Doubly-Periodic Configurations: Running SCREAM Without Breaking the Bank

Peter Bogenschutz
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Abstract: So you think you don’t have the computational resources to run SCREAM?  Think again!  This presentation provides an overview of the computationally accessible Doubly-Periodic (DP) and Regionally Refined Mesh (RRM) configurations of SCREAM.  I will demonstrate how the DP configuration is an efficient tool to replicate and understand systematic model biases and how the RRM configuration can be used to efficiently perform hindcast/storyline simulations while also serving as a high-resolution regional climate model.  DP and RRM are essential support configurations that make running SCREAM accessible to the entire community, with numerous opportunities for scientific applications.
